COPPA Notice — Children's Privacy
Last updated: April 5, 2026
1. Our Commitment
PlaySnakeOnline.com is committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which protects the online privacy of children under the age of 13 in the United States. We also respect the GDPR-K (EU) and similar children's privacy laws globally.
2. Is This Site Directed at Children?
PlaySnakeOnline.com is a general-audience game not specifically directed at children under 13. However, we recognize that children may access the site, and we take their privacy seriously.
3. What Information Do We Collect from Children?
We do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under 13 beyond what is described below:
- Display Name (Nickname) — Players type any name before playing. We do not require a real name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifying information. The nickname is stored only in the player's own browser (local storage) and is temporarily visible to other players in the same game session. It is never stored on our servers.
- Google Analytics — Our site uses Google Analytics 4, which collects anonymised usage data (device type, country, session length). We have configured Google Analytics with IP anonymisation enabled. We do not enable any user-level tracking features (e.g. User ID, Signals) that would create persistent profiles of individual children.
- Game Session Data — Real-time game positions and scores are transmitted through Ably for multiplayer functionality. This data is transient — it is not retained after a session ends and is not linked to any personal identity.
We do not collect: names, email addresses, home addresses, phone numbers, social security numbers, photos, videos, geolocation data, or any other personal information as defined under COPPA.
4. Parental Consent
Because we do not collect personal information from children as defined under COPPA, we do not require verifiable parental consent for children to use the basic game. The nickname feature does not constitute collection of personal information as it is not linked to any real identity.
If we ever change our data practices in a way that would require parental consent under COPPA, we will update this notice and implement appropriate consent mechanisms before making those changes.
5. Parental Rights
As a parent or guardian, you have the right to:
- Review any personal information we may have collected from your child
- Request deletion of any personal information collected from your child
- Refuse further collection or use of your child's information
- Consent to our collection and use of your child's information without consenting to its disclosure to third parties
To exercise these rights, contact us at PlaySnakeOnline@velovid.net with the subject line "COPPA Request". We will respond within 48 hours and take action within 10 business days.
6. Safe Play Recommendations for Parents
- Advise your child to use a made-up nickname — never their real name
- The in-game chat is the player's visible nickname only — there is no text chat
- The game contains no in-app purchases, no advertising networks, and no social login
- You can clear local storage in your browser settings to remove any saved nickname
7. EU / UK — GDPR for Children
For users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom, the GDPR requires that children under 16 (or a lower age set by the member state, minimum 13) must have parental consent for processing their personal data. Given that we do not collect personal data beyond anonymised analytics, this threshold is not triggered. However, if you are a parent in the EU/UK with concerns, please contact us at the address below.
8. Changes to This Notice
We will notify users of any material changes to our children's privacy practices by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, posting a notice on our homepage.
